Okay, this is for a piece of fiction I’m working on. It’s an alternate history/horror/science fiction piece, and I’m a little curious about my alternate history idea. In short, the world is split into Cold War-style blocs along religious lines.
The US comprises both what we know as the US, Canada, and a few parts of northern Mexico. Canada was annexed just fifty years after the American Revolution, throwing the French out of Canada. At about the same time, the French and British royal families married into each other, bringing France and the UK into the same country (can’t imagine THAT going down well with some people :p ), which then goes on to conquer Germany, Switzerland and a few other places in Central/Eastern Europe.
In the Middle East, the Ottoman Empire has been semi-replaced by an Arabic one, who are at odds with the Americans (nothing’s really changed there). This comprises the Arabian Peninsula, modern-day Iran, Egypt to Tunisia and possibly Sudan as well.
The Soviet Union has just been formed, pretty much as it was after World War 2, possibly with puppet states in Poland, Romania and Bulgaria to come later.
And to top it all off, the Vikings are still around. They control Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia and Denmark. They’re still worshipping the Viking gods, so they disagree with just about everyone.
How likely is this to occur, and what does anyone think about this?
