145 new jobs for Galway

A Galway-based firm specialising in wind turbine manufacture will create 145 new jobs. Just what the county needs at the moment.

According to the Wikipedia article, Ireland has a wind power capacity of 1428 megawatts, and on one day last April (2010), 50% of Ireland’s electricity demands were met by wind alone. Of course, wind can’t supply ALL of Ireland’s power by itself, but it can do a good part of it. Also, as shown above, there are economic benefits for creating jobs, both manufacturing them and possibly in servicing them.

Donegal doesn’t have a great economic history, mainly because it’s pretty remote – maybe some wind farms up there would help?
