Never heard of this unit before…

For the course in problem solving this year, we were given a textbook with a list of all the constants and formulae in physics. My edition dates from 1982, but that isn’t the point of this post. Among the list of conversion factors for Non-SI Units, there’s a footnote related to the light-year (distance travelled by light in one year, or 9.46 million billion metres): the beard-second.

This is equal to 10^-8 metres, or ten billionths of a metre, and is the distance which a standard beard in a standard face grows in one second. That’s a brilliant idea, says my beard!

EDIT: It’s on Wikipedia, with other such units!
